What certifications are required to get into the 1st dental job?

Level 2 License through NDAEB certification for Canadian provinces except Ontario which requires NDAEB & HARP certificates to become a Level 2 Licensed Dental Assistant.

How to take an NDAEB Certification?

Four stages Equivalency (EQV)  > Written Exam (WE) > Clinical Practical Evaluation (CPE) > NDAEB Certificate

How to get the Level II Dental Assistant License?

Submit your NDAEB certificate at your Provincial Dental Assistant Association:

  • Association of Alberta Dental Assistants
  • Certified Dental Assistants of British Columbia
  • Manitoba Dental Assistant’s Association
  • New Brunswick Dental Assistant’s Association
  • Newfoundland and Labrador Dental Assistant’s Association
  • Nova Scotia Dental Assistant’s Association
  • Society of Saskatchewan Dental Assistants

For Ontaro Province, submit both NDAEB and HARP certifications to:

How long does the licensing take?

If planned well, 6 – 8 months.

Can I start preparing before coming to Canada?

Yes – start with eqv & WE prep, while still abroad,  so that you plan in such a way that you will write the written exam within the 1st couple of weeks of landing.

When can I start applying for jobs?

As soon as you finish your WE exam. At this stage, your chances of getting hired goes from 10% to 60% as you are pursuing your Level 2 License. But after becoming Level 2 licensed (and HARP Certified if in Ontario), your job opportunity is at 100%

What Dental Jobs can Internationally Trained Dental Professionald do without certification?

NONE. But you may be able to get into low paid jobs with hectic schedules, with random & limited hours. Therefore, it is advised to take any Canadian dental certification to apply into any dental jobs in good centres.

What are the requirements to get a good dental job?

Knowledge on Canadian dentistry system, Canadian communication & fast paced work capability.

After doing a Canadian dental job training or volunteership – your chances to crack the interview skyrockets as they will be able to see your awareness of Canadian dentistry, communication & work culture.
